Hoboken, NJ – July 1, 2010 – APX Inc., the leading infrastructure provider for environmental and energy markets, is pleased to announce that the North Carolina Renewable Energy Tracking System (NC-RETS) launched today. NC-RETS will provide account holders with an easy-to-use, web-based system that creates, tracks, and enables trading of renewable energy and energy efficiency certificates. Additionally, the registry will track each North Carolina electric power supplier’s compliance with North Carolina’s renewable energy portfolio standard, including its contribution toward specific requirements for energy supplied by solar, swine and poultry waste resources.
APX’s technology will provide users with comprehensive and easily accessible reports that will allow the public to monitor key information, including NC-RETS projects, issued certificates, and utility compliance with North Carolina’s renewable energy portfolio standard.
“We look forward to transitioning North Carolina’s renewable energy and energy efficiency compliance to NC-RETS,” said Edward S. Finley, Jr., Chairman of the North Carolina Utilities Commission. “Some of the State’s renewable energy facilities have been producing qualifying energy since 2008. NC-RETS will give those facilities a means to secure renewable energy certificates for that qualifying renewable energy. In addition, North Carolina’s portfolio standard requires every electric power supplier in the State to meet .02% of its customers’ requirements in 2010 with solar power. NC-RETS will help the Commission to verify that every electric power supplier meets that requirement.”
“North Carolina’s launch of NC-RETS to track compliance with its renewable energy and energy efficiency portfolio standard through APX is further validation of our industry-leading infrastructure,” stated Katherine Graham, Manager of Registry Infrastructure at APX. “We are looking forward to building strong long-term relationships with the North Carolina utilities and renewable energy facility owners through their participation in NC???RETS.”

Further, NC-RETS has functionality to allow for the import and export of renewable energy certificates (RECs) into and out of the North American Renewables Registry™ (NAR), and similar links will be established with additional registries across the United States. The registry also will ensure the transparency, quality, reliability, and security of these certificates for both the compliance and voluntary REC markets.
